A Drive That Goes Beyond Collection

On 29 October 2025, the Rotary Club of Tuticorin, in association with Soolal Singam and powered by Deep Cycle Hub Pvt. Ltd., hosted the landmark Rotary for Earth – Sustainability E-Waste Drive at the Rotary House of Friendship, Tuticorin. The event brought together an inspiring mix of people and purpose. The event was graced by Rtn. PAG P. K. Saravanan, lovingly known as PKS, as the Guest of Honour, in the presence of PAG G. P. Joe Prakash. It was hosted by Rtn. J. Pinto Villavarayar, President, and Rtn. Mahalingam N, Secretary, Rotary Club of Tuticorin.

More than 75 members from Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs took part in the drive, including representatives from Rotary Club of Seaside Tuticorin, Rotary Club of Thoothukudi Titans, Rotary Club of Tuticorin Trailblazers, and Inner Wheel Club of Tuticorin Pearls and Corals.

The community’s enthusiasm stood out. Several participants went beyond small electronics, donating larger household items such as washing machines and OTG ovens for responsible recycling, reflecting a genuine commitment to the cause.

Measurable Change, Meaningful Impact

By the end of the day, the Soolal Singam team from Deep Cycle Hub had collected 523 kilograms of e-waste, from laptops and mobile phones to chargers and batteries. Every bit of it was sent to CPCB-authorized recyclers for safe material recovery, ensuring that what once polluted now had a chance to be reused.

Each contributor received a reusable eco-bottle as a thank-you gesture, a simple reminder that sustainability isn’t always about grand gestures, but about the choices we make every day.

The People Behind the Movement

The initiative was led by Deep Cycle Hub Co-founders, Mrs. Deepthi Cascarino and Mr. Joseph Cascarino, through their outreach platform, Soolal Singam. They highlighted that partnerships between civic groups like Rotary and sustainability-focused organizations can accelerate India’s transition toward a circular economy.

“This model can be replicated by any Rotary Club across District 3212 or anywhere in India,” said Mrs. Cascarino. “When clubs, corporates, and citizens come together, sustainability stops being a buzzword—it becomes a movement.”

Looking Ahead

President Rtn. J. Pinto Villavarayar expressed gratitude to all participants and partner clubs, noting that the drive reflected Rotary Tuticorin’s long-standing commitment to community service. Secretary Rtn. Mahalingam N added that initiatives like this prove how environmental action can thrive when it begins at the local level.

Building on the success of this drive, Deep Cycle Hub plans to take Soolal Singam’s school and corporate engagement programs to more cities across Tamil Nadu, setting up permanent e-waste collection points and driving awareness. Rotary Club of Tuticorin and Soolal Singam also plan to hold quarterly collection drives and launch a District 3212 Sustainability Network linking Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs engaged in green projects.

From Awareness to Habit

The Rotary for Earth E-Waste Drive showed that Thoothukudi’s strength lies in its people—people willing to take small, practical steps for a cleaner planet. With Rotary International’s focus on environmental protection, District 3212’s example serves as a reminder that sustainability begins not with grand declarations but with everyday actions that ripple outward.

Soolal Singam, the sustainability wing of Deep Cycle Hub Pvt. Ltd., continues to focus on responsible e-waste management, circular economy education, and zero-waste community initiatives across Tamil Nadu.
